Tran Phuong Bac - Partner

Mr. Tran Phuong Bac, a legal profesional with diverse international backgrounds, joins LuatViet as our new Partner from July 2009. At LuatViet, his practice areas focus on Securities, Asset Management & Capital Market, Banking & Insurance, Corporate Governance & Compliance Services. He leads the Financial Services Practice Group.

Before joining LuatViet, Bac worked for three years at Prudential Vietnam Fund Management Company as the Head of Legal Department & Company Secretary. At Prudential Vietnam Fund Managment, an investment arm of the UK based life insurance corporation, Bac together with other colleagues helped manage a total fund under managment (FUM) of more than US$ 1.3 billion from both onshore and offshore retail and institutional investors. Bac has participated in, and also structured, a number of M&A and investment transactions from public equities and fixed income to private equities and real properties. Bac also helped to launch a mutual fund and also listed it at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Shares Subscription Agreement, Investment and Shareholder Agreement, Sale and Purchase Agreement of Shares, Prospectus and Securities Notes and other legal documents in financial services are his expertise. Bac also served in a number of Boards and Committees such as Risk Committee and Audit Committee.
Prior to Prudential, Bac worked with Unilever Vietnam as Legal Counsel for 6 years. Bac took care of corporate legal matters in customer development, supply chain, finance and commercial contracts. He had helped Unilever in various projects, including a merger, a buy-out, new factory set up and also disposals.

Back in 2000, he also practiced at LuatViet for 2 years as an Of Counsel.

Bac was also a lecturer at the Commercial Law Department of the University of Laws in Ho Chi Minh City and Faculty of Laws at Can Tho University.

Bac obtained a LL.M from University of Groningen (the Netherlands) in 2000 and LL.B from University of Laws in Ho Chi Minh City in 1996. He is a member of the Ho Chi Minh City’s bar association.
